Hull and Fire
Levy Tren-Ulitese—Lor of the Land and gentleman of high society—is awoken in the early hours of the morning for an emergency: his father’s ship, missing for nine years now, has reappeared near the mouth of its home harbour entirely bereft of its crew. The expedition to the New World, a place they call ‘Minera’, apparently ended in tragedy. But how did the ship sail itself home? What happened to the crew? And what is the strange, dark artifact found aboard her?
Pushed by internal divisions and outside political forces, Levy and his sister are forced to refit the ship and flee the only city they’ve ever called home. Declared fugitives by their father’s old allies, they assemble a strange crew of the desperate and depraved; a turncoat imperial marine, a man that can manipulate the spirit-lines of the world, a war-hero famed for his supernatural accuracy with the musket, and a mute stow-away with mysterious powers. Together, they will follow in the wake of Levy’s father.
Together they will find a new home on the shores of Minera!
A Good Lee
After narrowly escaping from their home — a city that has been taken in by hate and greed — the Eastern Skylark enjoys a good head start. They sail for the New World, Minera, with a crew made up of refugees, cynics and loners. But it won’t be easy sailing the rest of the way: the journey is expected to take several weeks before they set their eyes on the shores of Minera. Dogged by pirates, the bureaucracy of the Free Coast and even the encroaching alien sea life of the New World, there are difficult decisions to be made and dispatches to be sent. The siblings begin to doubt their actions, Lukas may have to face his enigmatic past, and a crew-member considers turning traitor.
Meanwhile, the dreaded ‘Queen of Smiles’ has discovered that the person she has been searching for is aboard the Skylark. As an emissary of the Contemporary Tarisian Agreement, she has powerful allies in positions high and low, and seeks to dominate them all. Her voracious desire for the chase makes it so that she will gladly hound the Tren-Ulitese expedition to the ends of the earth in pursuit of her objective. Her favorite tool? The use of the broken, the depraved and the desperate to inflict the violence she craves.
With the knowledge that every second they waste is another second closer to their doom, the crew of the Skylark seeks a healthy wind and a good lee.
